Matrix Welcomes Seven Research Teams for 2024-2025
Social Science Matrix will welcome seven new Matrix Research Teams for the 2024-2025 academic year. This year’s funded teams — three faculty-led team and four graduate student-led teams — will address diverse social science topics, including industrial policy, computational social science, data mining and algorithms, and the language of biomedicine.

Students Chosen for Iris Hui Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship
Two UC Berkeley graduate students — Emma Bates and Tanya Bertone — have been selected to receive the 2024 Dr. Iris Hui Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship. Established in 2021, this scholarship honors the vision and goals of Dr. Iris Hui, a PhD graduate of Political Science from UC Berkeley.

Four UC Berkeley professors have been selected to be Matrix Faculty Fellows for the 2024-2025 academic year. Social Science Matrix is proud to announce our inaugural cohort of Matrix Communications Scholars, a group of six PhD students or candidates who will create podcasts, written interviews, or other features while developing social science communication skills throughout the year. The Scholars are Jennie Barker, a PhD candidate in Political Science; J.T. Jamieson, a PhD candidate in History; Aidan Lee, a PhD student in History; Daniel Lobo, a PhD student in Sociology; Nataliya Nedzhvetskaya, a PhD student in Sociology; and Tiffany Taylor, a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology.

PhD Students: Apply to be a Social Science Matrix Communications Fellow
Want to contribute to the Matrix website? We are inviting PhD students or candidates in the UC Berkeley Division of Social Sciences to apply for the Social Science Matrix Communications Fellowship. Fellows will meet monthly and contribute at least two articles, podcasts, or other features for the Matrix website during the 2022-2023 academic year. Each fellow will also receive a stipend of $1500.

Iris Hui Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship Winners
Two UC Berkeley social science graduate students have been selected as the inaugural recipients of the Iris Hui Memorial Graduate Student Scholarship. Joseph Greenbaum, a PhD student in the Department of Political Science; and Gisselle Perez-Leon, a PhD candidate in the Department of History, will each receive a stipend to support their research for the 2022-2023 academic year.
